On the Urgency to reIMAGINE, reCLAIM, and reSTRUCTURE

Radio Broadcast:
Invited by
A4CT, Station of Commons hosted a live radio discussion from
Redukt_Studio in Kallio on how technology supports artists’ work together in
decentralised, cooperative ways, and imagines alternative economic
models and economic agency in the field.
In this section, Eddie
questions the assumption that state or institutional funding is
universally available and highlights the contrast between collective
practices in the Global South and the more individualistic mindset of
the West. Referencing the rice theory, Eddie suggests that societies
shaped by rice-based agriculture tend to be more interdependent due to
the cooperative labour required for survival and emphasises that
collective practices are not ideological choices, but practical
responses to structural conditions.
For three weeks, A4CT organised at Redukt_Studio in Kallio a
small-scale hub for collective exchange, activation, and practices of
commoning. Artists, collectives, cultural workers, and activists were
invited to come together to exchange on the conditions of artistic labor
in 2026 Finland and other relevant topics amid funding cuts, the rise
of right-wing policies, institutional repression, restrictive
immigration laws, growing unemployment, ongoing genocides, and systemic
colonial violence. The space served as both a forum for critical
discussion and as a platform for performances and community-led
activities.

Action Weekend
Oulu. May 2025
In May, A4CT had the opportunity to facilitate a workshop at the third’s ACTION WEEKEND, organised by @dodo_org in Oulu. The gathering brought together facilitators and participants
to exchange ideas and dive into the many dimensions of the concept of
‘direct action’ in activism. During the workshop we explored how
the affective potential of art can lead to more effective forms of
activism and how its impact could be measured. Together we considered
the challenges faced by activists and artists in today’s political
climate and explored strategies of resistance and expression through
both theory and practice.
